You are right - the first 2 are Samsung 1M x 1 DRAM's 80ns - the BJ is
likely to be a mask revision or a die shrink to improve speed performance

The 3rd is a Samsung 4M x 1 DRAM 80ns

The 4th is 4M x 1 but you may have the pt no wrong - it should be
M5M44100AJ

FYI the Mitsubishi 1M x 4 DRAM would be M5M44400AJ

the two internet sites listed in the announcements have been spotty
but i am working on getting an FTP host permanently and will eliminate
the current problem of files not arriving soon enough or having been
removed by the time someone tries to ftp them.

in the meantime .. i will place the files on hold for those that e-mail
me with a specific request in the appropriate directory.

dspmorse.zip can be retrieved at ftp.netcom.com in /pub/ab5sm/hamsrc

please let me know when you have it so i can remove it from the directory
and i hope to have the ftp site problem resolved soon

Not bad. Not a ridiculous bargain, but not bad either if it's a solid
rig (only time will tell, since Heath rigs have been known to have
intermittents related to their kit origins). Add an audio filter for
CW, and a dummy load to tune up into.

Their lawyers.  Even if the material is indeed in the public domain
and the company in question is entirely in the wrong, a lawsuit would
bankrupt any individual.  Thus, the individual must kowtow to any
party with enough money to hire mercenaries.  Sad but true.

The question, then is whether JIR is willing to set their dogs on any
"violators."

I have some good news for you! Yes, you can do it with off-the-shelf
equipment, and even better news: There's a guy at McMurdo (Antarctica) who's
done it! You want to get ahold of Al Oxton <[e-mail]>. (
or [e-mail] ) Tell him I gave you his name. He did something similar
up here in New Hampshire using commercial radios with packet controllers. I
was involved with the project just a little bit, but it was so many years
ago, I've forgotten most of it. You don't need full duplex, btw.

The Radio Society of Great Britain has scheduled its 1994
International HF and Islands on the Air Convention for October 7 to
9, 1994.

Included this year is a 30th birthday party for IOTA.

The convention will be held at the Beaumont Conference Centre in Old

Our full-duplex radios allow transmitting on one band while receiving
on the other band.  I don't know of any frequency-agile rigs that can
simultaneously transmit and receive on the same band.  That would
require a repeater-type duplexer that was electronically tunable and
*tiny*.  Remote basing requires simultaneous transmission and reception
for each direction, so full duplex remote basing would require the rig
to be transmitting two signals and receiving two signals all at the
same time.  When remoting to a repeater, I have to wait for the repeater
to stop transmitting so the remote stops transmitting, so it is in a
position to receive my signal and turn around.

Tornadoes bring out hams

Members of the ARRL Amateur Radio Emergency Service have been
extremely active and visible during and following tornadoes that
struck several southeastern states on Sunday, March 27.

In Alabama, more than 70 amateurs in 10 counties participated in the
state's 2-meter weather spotting net, as well as in damage
assessment following the storms, according to Herb Griffin, N4ZOV,
president of the Calhoun County Amateur Radio Association, an ARRL
Special Services Club.  The National Weather Service in Birmingham
received the reports via W4CUE, repeater station of the Birmingham
Amateur Radio Club.

Carol Boothe, KE4HJU, was cited by Griffin and others for yeoman
service as net control on the 2-meter net, conducted through
repeater station WB4GNA, with its wide coverage from the highest
point in Alabama, atop Mt. Cheaha.

In Georgia, where the state's ARES net was activated Sunday
afternoon following reports of tornadoes in Alabama, amateurs manned
ARES nets in 12 counties in the storm's expected path.  Local
2-meter net reports were funneled to the Georgia ARES Net on 3975
kHz, with liaisons to both Alabama and South Carolina.  From there
spotting reports were relayed to state Red Cross Headquarters in
Atlanta.

Georgia ARRL Section Emergency Coordinator Dot Fennell, KA4HHE, told
an interviewer for WJCL-TV in Savannah about Amateur Radio's role in
storm communications.  ''Doppler radar is wonderful,'' she said, ''but
the human eye is the best weather instrument.''

The ARRL welcomes reports and photos from amateurs involved in these
operations.
